A Study on Rabbit Specific Phytoagglutinins

Abstract
It has been known that certain plant seeds were found to contain some hemagglutinating substances for several animal or human erytl-irocytes.
Authors carried out agglutination and adsorption test of saline extracts of Castnea crenata Sie. et Zucc. (CCSZ), Pteropus pselaphonlay(PP), Phellopterus littoralis B. (PLB), and Abies hollophylla Maximowicz (AHM) native to Korea with human and animal erythrocytes, studied on their agglutinating inhibition reaction with various sugars, and observed their heat stability with the following results.
Saline extracts of CCSZ, PP, PLB, and AHM were found to contain rabbit specific agglutinins.
Experiments on the heat stability of CCSZ agglutinin showed that the agglutinin treated at T-WC for 30 min. brought positive reaction but the agglutinins treated above 56C for 30 min. negative reaction.
The agglutinating reaction of CCSZ was not inhibited by sugars such as L-arabinose, D-xylose, D-mannose, dextrose, lactose and D-galactose, but the agglutinins of PP, PLB and AHM were inhibited by sugars such as mentioned above.
